Redwood City has spoken and we’ve listened. To date, more than 6,000 residents have provided valuable feedback on several important issues related to the future of the Saltworks site, including transportation, conservation and sustainability, the local economy, housing, and open space and recreation. While every bit of information received is vital to creating a community-based plan for this site, there have been several overarching themes that have emerged as key priorities for the Redwood City community.

Most significantly, a vast majority of residents have indicated that this site should adequately address these five issues through a balance of uses to meet the economic, environmental, civic and recreational needs of the Redwood City community. As indicated by residents a balance of uses includes, passive and active open space, a variety of housing options, new commercial areas and significant wetlands restoration.

The community has also identified several other key issues needed to be addressed for the future of the Saltworks site. These priorities include:
  • Provide Major Public Access to the Bay
  • Protect City finances and taxpayer dollars
  • Create a Sustainable and Transit-oriented Community
