It takes five years for salt to fully form before it's ready to be harvested. Harvesting salt is a solar and wind driven process.

The process starts with the site looking something like a graded or bulldozed field. The crystallizers are then flooded with millions of gallons of saturated brines. And then the sun and the wind take over. Over time, the saturated brines begin to evaporate. Eventually, at harvest time, brilliant crystallized salt covers the landscape. Finally, heavy industrial equipment is used to harvest and load the salt.
