For nearly two years, DMB Associates has been engaged in a community outreach process to help plan the future for the Redwood City Saltworks site. We have received comments from mail surveys, neighborhood meetings and presentations, community workshops and forums, individual presentations, website comments, and email comments. Many residents told us they'd like more parks and open space, others have said they'd like to see new housing for working families and seniors and many asked for new transit opportunities, a link to the downtown and new Bayside access, at no cost to current taxpayers. In total, more than 5,000 residents have offered their suggestions about the future use of this land.
We've now reached a critical point in our planning process and we would like to hear your thoughts about a pivotal issue in our planning. The vast majority of responses we have received suggest that a mix of uses on the site is the most appropriate way to accommodate the priorities of Redwood City residents. As you can imagine, some people would like to see the entire site developed and some people are opposed to any development. Most of the many opinions we received fall in between. Based on the vast amount of community input that we have received, the Saltworks team has committed to a 50/50 Balanced Approach, which allocates 50 percent of the Saltworks site for habitat creation, recreation and open space uses and 50 percent of the site for a mix of community uses.
